The past few days -part 3

22.10.11 - Went to the counsellor's at Indiranagar. He seemed all calm and said writing TOEFL in December was OKAY cos i wasn't focussing on applying to a Masters in Science program anyway! Thank god for that! he also told me i'd be better off with management internships if i were to apply to a course in management. So, yeah that's my next step. He seemed much more concerned than me that i was throwing away my electronics degree to pursue management. Honestly, electronics is reeeeally boring and dry!( Except Microelectromechanical systems, which was pretty interesting!). It's a miracle i made it through without breaking down completely! It dampened my spirit and made me behave VERY differently from what i am. I was SPIRITLESS for three whole years...okay, that was a bit dramatic. I wasn't "spiritless" lol but things are definitely better now that i don't have any electronics text books around me! :D
So anyway, apart from management, i am even interested in Bioengineering, which is a combo of biology and electronics. ( Only the biology part of it appeals, though. The electronics part makes me want to gag! ). I am at a fork right now and i don't know what path to choose!... Gah, i should have just gone to some beauty school in Paris and set up my own salon! Now that sounds soo much more fun! :D I still hope to do it some day!!
Anyway, back to the topic, I'm still a little fuddled on what course to take up. Will let you know when i DO choose something!!
So, by the time i was done talking to the counsellor i worked up quite an appetite and was raring to eat! :D Had a yummy lunch!

Left for home immediately after lunch and caught a cold by the time i got there :| Booked my TOEFL exam for the 10th of Dec in Chennai and waded off to sleep! Woke up with a slight fever and a heavy head today.. So here i am, all sick and cranky. Will catch you later. Toodles! :)

The past few days -part 2 : Men and buses- a nasty combo?

20.10.11- woke up (sometime in the afternoon, again) and went downstairs for breakfast. I can't remember what it was but i didn't feel like eating it so just drank some coconut water and darted off to watch a few episodes of modern family.I can never get enough of it! It's so hilarious and most importantly, realistic!None of the shit where the family hugs each other and cries and has emotional talks and says "i love you" in overly sentimental and grateful tones like in most soaps..By the time i was done watching a few episodes, it was evening! How time flies! Out of the blue, i remembered i was supposed to go to the Sai Baba temple in malleshwaram.Got dressed in a jiffy and me and Priya headed out amidst my granny screaming that we shouldn't take an auto cos the guy would kidnap us, apparently. A few incidents once in a blue moon and bam! Every auto driver becomes a wannabe kidnapper in the eyes of overprotective adults.
We decided to take her advice anyway and waited at the bus stop. With  no bloody volvo in sight, we had to make do with a pushpak.Ah, there were a few seats in the end and we triumphantly raced to them. The men sitting there gave us "looks"..i don't know what to make of those "looks" but i know they weren't good in any way, just menacing. They looked like they wanted us out of their "territory" ( the last few seats are usually the male bastion, if i may say so :P ). My antenna was up in the air, as is usually the case when there are too many unknown men around and i tried my best to look at them defiantly. But shameless as they were, it didn't deter them from giving more "looks" .. Arrgghh! And one creep came a little too close for comfort and i had to make a show of calling the police ( which is actually quite ridiculous. Like the police gives a hoot about such stuff) but it was my best option and it helped! The guy sunk back and didn't come close again. Phew! I had had enough of the bus by then and made a mental note to tell my granny how i was never going to listen to her yap about how safe buses were :|
When we got off the bus, an air of relief went through me! I stared at the bus scathingly and started walking towards the temple. Bought roses on the way to give at the temple. I love the flower market in Malleshwaram. Everything looks so fresh and beautiful! ( not when seen through my 2MP camera though! My apologies for putting up hazy pictures! )

Then, we were off to the temple and got back from the darshan in about half an hour. After a quick dinner ,we scooted off to the bus stop. Yup, no matter how much you hate advice from your grandmother, it's always deeply ingrained in your head! Gran always said autos are unsafe, especially after 9 in the night and it was 9.30 now :P We got into the first bus that came and i saw these men sitting in seats reserved for women. I tapped one guy's shoulder ( he was pretending to be asleep, by the way) and asked him to get up and he made excuses about how he had to hold a huge bag and stuff. i told him i'd hold it.Then another member of the clan came to this guy's rescue saying he wasn't well and stuff, which was OBVIOUSLY  bullshit! Persistence paid off and the guy finally "gave up" his seat. And almost like in a chain, three other guys who were sitting  in "women only" seats got up too! Me and priya and two other girls were all smug and gloated in out seats. Things were fine but after a while, the guy who i asked to get up sat in a "women-only" seat adjacent to me and gave me "looks"..aarrgghh! Seriously! what's with these men? Did i lower his ego and degrade his masculinity by asking him to move? Whatever it is, these guys have ISSUES!!

The past few days -part 1.

19.10.11 - Woke up with a start, sometime around afternoon, realizing that i still hadn't booked a date for my TOEFL exam! Now, my GRE scores are completely useless if i don't have TOEFL scores to boot so i started calling friends frantically, wondering what to do. Nothing anybody said could help so i decided to check available dates and horrors of horrors!- The only  "nearest" available date was the 10th of Dec!! That too in Chennai! Not knowing what to do, i decided to consult a Counsellor the next day. Right. He or she will know what to do.I must just give my mind some rest and relaaaax.
So, me and Priya went to the library. i borrowed  'The undomestic Goddess' by Sophie Kinsella and 'Shabanu- daughter of the wind' by somebody, Can't remember the author. Then we headed out for some Golgappa. I generally don't like chaats and junk food and stuff ( if you give me a bowl of the yummiest snack in the world and a bowl of rice, I will most probably choose the latter) but the sound of golgappas that day just sounded so appealing , i just HAD to get some. And boy, am i glad! It was EXTREMELY spicy and yummmmmmm!!
yum yum yum!

Started walking home at around 8.30 pm. bought a packet of "hot-chips"  to eat on the way..I wouldn't have bought it if i were my usual self but then again, i was actin weird and chose "junk" over rice so i must have been pretty stressed :P ..So, we got home at around 9 and decided to try on those korean masks i mentioned in a previous entry. The one below is an eye mask.

Bean shaped eye patches

The mask is soo refreshing! My eyes felt all parched and dry before but these patches gave me much needed relief. We tried taking "scary" pics with the mask on. Sadly enough, they didn't turn out all that scary :P

A venomous blue for a spine-chilling effect :P

We kept it on for an hour or so and just talked and talked. Before we knew it, it was time to take off the masks  and call it a day ( Do you sense double entendre here? :P). oh before i go, pics of my phone pouch!! :)

The piano pouch is mine!! :D The mail thingy is Priya's.

How cute is that!

DIY : Jewel Tree..

So, me and my lil cuz, Chandu were extremely bored one evening.I mean, i don't mind sitting idle but you know how ten year olds are! She was all hyperactive and kept sayin how boring it was etc etc. Now now, i definitely can't run after her and play "catch-catch" so the best i could come up with was some craft idea! she lapped it up and we started off right away. Here it goes!
What it is : A jewel tree is a simple and easy (and not to mention, pretty) hang-on for your jewellery. The one i have made is a jewel tree in its most basic form. You can always elaborate on it and add your own touches and improve on this model!

Things you need :
1.MOST IMPORTANT : A sturdy branched-twig( Mine was actually slightly bent. Make sure you get something that's straight).

2. A plate or a container. I chose a plastic lid.

3.Some wheat dough! you can use clay too.

4.Some shards of glass( if you don't have broken pieces, just throw an old glass tumbler on the floor with a lot of force, pick up the pieces very carefully and sweep the area clean.Yes, i know I'm being ridiculous but whatever! )

5.A bottle of nail base for the branch( for protection and a glossy effect). You can use varnish too,if you want.

That's all! Now, let's start!

STEP 1 : Clean the twig and the lid or container with a cloth.Next, place the branch vertically on the plate and glue it firmly to the lid with a strong glue. You can even use a strong tape to keep it in place.

STEP 2: After the branch is firmly in place, take some dough and pat it around the stem of the branch as shown :

STEP 3: Add more layers of dough till the lid is completely covered.Next, place( or rather , sink in) your glass shards on the dough any way you want to! You can make patterns with it too, but I prefer placing it randomly.

STEP 4: Now that you are done with the base, it's time to chiiiiill.Let the base dry in the sun for a day at least cos otherwise, since the dough is organic, fungus could grow on it and make things pretty nasty!! *eww*
While we waited, another cuz, Priya ,came home and we got talking. Chandu decided to rest for a while (No,she wasn't tired!! i didn't make her slog while i sat back and watched. She just decided to rest for no reason! Maybe she found mine n Pri's conversation boring!! ). Priya loves taking pics of Chandu ( she loves taking pics of just about anything, infact! And she's pretty good at it, i must say! ). The credits for all the photos below go to her!

My lil helper! :P

STEP 5: okay, after a day out in the sun, your jewel tree base should have hardened. if not, just let it dry a lil while more.Once it's set, paint the branch with some transparent nail base( or varnish) and you are good to go! :)

STEP 6: Tadaa! Now that you are done making it, go on and hang your earrings and chains and bracelets and what not on your jewel tree!
Warning : if your branch isn't strong enough, it might start drooping cos of the weight of all the stuff you put on it. In that case, hang very light weight jewellery on it. But to avoid all these problems, choose a strong branch in the beginning itself!

Like i said, this was the most basic jewel tree i could come up with. You can always improve on it by painting the twig or changing the base or adding pretty stones to the base and so much more! Do let me know how you made it! Send me pics! And have fun while you are at it! <3

Ohio! :D

No, I'm not talking about Ohio,Cincinnati .. I'm only saying Good Morning in Japanese! Thanks to K-on, i even say Mushi Mushi (Japanese for 'hello') sometimes when i pick up calls..Anyway, it's not technically morning now but 12:22 pm is kinda like the earliest i wake up these days..
I'm staying at my granny's place currently and i woke up to the shouts of "Snake!! SNAKE" this morning..Arggh how i HATE waking up alarmed! But anyway, the word snake caught my attention and i ran downstairs in a jiffy. My gran was all excited , staring out the backdoor like somebody had dropped a fat little baby wrapped in a pink blanket and wearing woolen booties in our backyard. I rushed out expecting something cute (I only have my granny's expressions to blame for that!)but all i found was a puny lil thing that looked more or less like chapathi dough, curled up in a corner and looking at us in a surprisingly defiant manner! I had a reverie about how i'd talk to the snake in parseltongue ala Harry Potter and lead it outside the gate and how the snake would tell me that it was a celestial messenger blah blah blah..As lame and "old" as it sounds, i actually like believing in  "superstitions" (like the snake being a celestial messenger, for eg) that are called "irrational" by our so-called modern science. Its unproven stuff like this that make the world seem like a magical place. Otherwise, everything in this world just seems so dissected and labelled and backed by "proofs". That makes everything seem so dull and prosaic and plain BORING! It's so much more interesting when some things don't have an answer..
Whoops!i diverted from the topic quite a bit.. Sorry about the digression.. Anyway coming back to the snake, the little thing kept looking at us with those hypnotizing eyes that snakes are so famous for..Granpa called the local snake catcher and he came in about ten minutes. It was only when he tried catching the snake with a hook-like instrument that we realized it was a baby Cobra! It raised its hood in all its glory and all i wanted to do then was to take a picture of it but my granny wouldn't hear of it..Its bad to take pictures of Cobras apparently. I argued that NGC and discovery channel photographers were doing just fine even after capturing ALL the snakes there are in the world ..She didn't bother replying and told me to put my phone away.. Hmph! Now these are the kind of superstitions i DON'T endorse! But everybody has their opinions. To each, his own! :)
I'm waiting for Priya, my cuz, to get home from college. She bought me a few Korean face masks yesterday and i'm VERY eager to try them on! Yeah, apart from my Japanese obsession , I also have this korean thingy going on :D Fun!

Heyhey!

I'm back!! Sorry i couldn't write for long..was busy with gre prep. Just finished my exam today and my score is pretty decent for just a month of preparation :D . So yeah, looked up a few courses. Masters in management sounds interesting! I originally wanted to apply to an MBA program but you apparently require work experience for that so that's outta the picture. But just for the fun of it, I applied to the Wharton school of business today(HA HA! Fat chance! ).
Speaking of work, i STILL didn't get my date of joining!! They have been putting it off forever! If things had gone as planned, I would have had fancy lunches, an even more overflowing wardrobe(if that's possible) and lots and lots of creams n perfumes and shoes and this n that and what not ,by now!! Looks like i should be content with just day dreaming for a few more months :(
I just remembered i still haven't put up pics of my jewel tree..Will do it tomorrow for sure! Too tired and sleepy and slightly disgruntled to do it now. I'm off to sleep . Good night! ^-^

Hmm...

And today is the day i realised that it's more important to be straight with life than to be polite or kind . And being sensitive and kind in this dog-eat-dog world is a big NO-NO !! I mean , YOU don't have to be a dog but you have to eat others before they take you alive! Yeah, sounds stupid but it's quite meaningful if you see it the right way.
I guess i was just trying to be "mature" and a "good-girl" to prove a certain loser wrong ( NO! Don't get the wrong ideas!! The person in question can at the most be classified as an acquaintance) .Now that i think of it, i always was a "good girl" but not the type that wakes up at 4 and goes to temples and circumambulates Tulsi plants etc etc..But anyway, i just figured i wasted so much time and energy for someone who is not even a part of my life ( And never was ! ) . That person can't even think something out on his own and his opinions are what his parents tell him ! Anyway, I'm past all that now with my newfound revelations :P . One can't really hide his true nature for long. It's gonna come spilling out someday if you keep it locked in for long ! Speaking of  which , my flair for cussing is back , bitch! :D
